We recently developed a WordPress web site for a religious organisation that wants to make their self hosted preaching clips behave in the following way:
- Categorised by topic (playlist)
- Single ‘set and forget’ auto placement of new clips
- With an immediately visible Download button
- No intention of selling the clips or monetising in other ways
- No need for a Podcast Host
- The ability to send a mass notification to members of new clips.
- Not willing to spend money on a premium product
Plugins that we tried and didn’t fit the bill (mostly because the download button was hard to find or only a premium feature) were: Blubrry PowerPress, Compact Audio Player, Download Manager, HTML5 Audio Player, Podlove, Seriously Simple Podcasting and Audio Album
At the end of the day we found ONE (the last one, as everyone always says!) that fits the bill – AudioIgniter by the The CSSIgniter Team. AudioIgniter does not do mass mailing but that was sorted with another of our plugins.
What we would like to see in AudioIgniter is the ‘restriction’ to only allow logged in users to download clips.
What it says on AudioIgniter’s Box:
AudioIgniter is an MP3 music player that lets you create music playlists and embed them in your WordPress posts, pages or custom post types. By using the standard WordPress media upload functionality, you can create new audio playlists in minutes. Oh, you can use AudioIgniter to stream your radio show too!
