Upgrades and additions to the Guardians of Hope premises in Belgravia East London have been made possible thanks to supporters of the Algoa FM Charity Golf Day, which returned to East London this year after a two-year break due to Covid-19 restrictions.

Guardians of Hope provides a safe sanctuary, medical and social support for abused children from just a few months old to four years of age.

It also facilitates adoptions.

“The funds raised by the Algoa FM Charity Golf Day will help us to provide more support to the babies in our care,” says Elaine Brenkman, founder and manager of the home.

The R80 000 will go towards the costs of taking ownership of the new Guardians of Hope home, a generator. and baby items like formula, nappies and food, she says.

The home has an ongoing need for clothing, nappies, food, formula, baby products and medication, she adds.

Due to the high number of babies sadly abandoned in the veld and in dustbins around Belgravia and surrounds, Guardians of Hope has also been requested to install a Baby Saver into which children can be placed.

It has launched a fund-raising drive through which donors are asked to commit to R100 a month through a debit order. More details are available on their site www.guardiansofhope.co.za

“We feel privileged and honoured to be able to raise funds for the work Elaine and her dedicated team are doing,” says Algoa FM marketing manager Lesley Geyer.

“They provide love, safety and hope for children who would otherwise have none. It is truly an inspiring and humbling place to visit and support,” she adds.
